Customs Officer, Family Die in Tragic Fire Incident

A fire outbreak in the early hours of Monday, December 2, 2024, has claimed the lives of Superintendent of Customs Kabiru Tijani, his wife, and their four children.
The sad incident occurred at their residence in Ede, Osun State, around 3:00 am.The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement, describing the loss as an immense tragedy for the command and the country.
The late Superintendent Tijani was described by colleagues as a dedicated officer and a compassionate individual. “This is a painful loss. He was not just a hardworking officer but a kind-hearted man,” said a fellow customs officer.
It noted that SC Kabiru Tijani, who served as the Officer in Charge of Operations at the Command, was a dedicated officer.
It said his unwavering commitment to duty, particularly in coordinating and executing successful anti-smuggling operations, greatly contributed to the success of the Command.
His wife, an active member of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Oyo/Osun Chapter, was equally admired for her contributions to the welfare of the Customs community.
In the wake of this incident, the Oyo/Osun Area Command wishes to address speculative reports regarding the inferno.
The Command urged the public to disregard such unfounded reports as our priority remains to provide support to the bereaved extended family, the lone child survivor and to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident.
The Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, on behalf of the Officers and Men of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, deeply commiserated with the family and friends of the deceased.
He further appreciated the prayers and support from the members of the public.
Furthermore, SC Kabiru Tijani and his family have since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
Customs management prayed the Almighty grant them Al-Janatul Firdaus and give their family the strength to endure this immense loss.
