The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that no fewer than 505,906 Nigerians have participated in its pre-registration process for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), just five days after the launch of its online portal.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this during a roadshow in Abuja to mark the official commencement of the 2025 CVR exercise.
Represented by National Commissioner, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, Yakubu described the impressive turnout as a clear indication of citizens’ confidence in Nigeria’s democracy and INEC’s commitment to strengthening the electoral system. He explained that the CVR remains a critical step in the Commission’s determination to deliver credible elections and deepen democratic governance. According to him, while the online pre-registration phase is ongoing, in-person registration will begin next week across all INEC Local Government and State Offices nationwide.
The INEC Chairman urged eligible citizens—particularly those who have just turned 18, as well as individuals seeking to update or transfer their voter records—to take full advantage of the exercise.
He further appealed to political parties, civil society groups, the media, and other stakeholders to support the process by mobilising awareness and encouraging wider participation.
Meanwhile, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, assured of the Commission’s readiness to commence the physical registration phase across its offices nationwide.
