Dantale: Nigeria’s Democracy at Crossroads

The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantale, says Nigeria’s democracy is at a crossroads, alleging that the judiciary is being influenced by the highest bidders and causing debilitating damage to the country.

Dantale made the remark on Tuesday while contributing to discussions on the development of democracy in Nigeria at an event organised by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) at Tafawa Balewa Hall in Bauchi.
Dantale, who is also the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), expressed regret over the current state of democratic practices and governance, which he said had been bedevilled by the infiltration of unknown persons and fake politicians allegedly being used by those in power to disrupt political parties and opponents.
He said the ruling class had instead turned politics into a tool of suppression through the use of political influence and money allegedly acquired through questionable means to distract and disorganise other political parties and pressure groups, describing the development as unhealthy for the country.
He, however, urged Nigerians to resist such conduct, describing it as a political aberration and unacceptable practice.
Dantale also called on Nigerians to play the political game according to the rules, stressing that democracy remains the best form of government when properly practised.
