Defence Headquarters Grieves, Intensifies Anti-Kidnap Fight

The Defence Headquarters has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while in captivity after being abducted by criminals.


In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the Armed Forces of Nigeria described the late officer as a dedicated soldier who made significant contributions to national security, counter-insurgency operations, and military professionalism.

The statement noted that Major General Abubakar served in several key appointments, including Director of Defence Information and spokesman of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
It explained that the Defence Headquarters refrained from making public comments on his abduction while security agencies intensified efforts to secure his release, deploying all available operational resources.
The statement extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and Nigerians, describing his commitment to duty and national unity as exemplary.
It also reiterated the Armed Forces’ resolve to intensify ongoing operations against kidnappers and terrorist groups, assuring citizens of its determination to restore peace and bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
