The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria has announced that it will hold its second Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The summit will focus on the growing threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a modern form of warfare capable of destabilizing international relations and disrupting trade and investment.

Speaking on the event, DICAN Chairman Idehai Frederick emphasized the importance of fostering collaborative truth to protect global security and economic stability. “A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment.

Misinformation can scare away foreign investors and destabilize local markets,” he said.

The conference will convene diplomats, intelligence experts, media professionals, and business leaders to strengthen cooperation across diplomacy, intelligence, and media.

Key objectives include establishing international rules to counter state-sponsored disinformation, enhancing detection and neutralization of hybrid threats, and promoting accurate reporting to safeguard national and economic interests.

Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who serves as DICAN’s Grand Patron, will deliver the keynote address. Other prominent facilitators include the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, alongside security experts, regulators, and private sector leaders.

By bringing together key stakeholders, DICAN aims to strengthen strategies against the weaponization of false information and ensure Nigeria remains a secure and attractive destination for investment.
