EFCC Wins as Court Rejects Aisha Achimugu’s N10bn Lawsuit
Lagos socialite and businesswoman, Aisha Achimugu, has lost a lawsuit she filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), seeking N10 billion in compensation over the search of her residence and the seizure of her properties.
Her claim that the EFCC violated her fundamental human rights was dismissed by Justice M.S. Liman of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday.
In a statement the anti-graft agency said Achimugu’s attempt to challenge its actions could not stand the test of the law, arguing that the commission had the statutory powers to carry out its responsibilities.
The statement read: “In the originating suit no: FHC/ABJ/CS/466/2026, Achimugu approached the court for determination of whether the defendant, EFCC’s action of searching her house and seizing her cars and jewelries and other items was within the powers of the Commission.”
CAPITAL POST reports that Achimugu had sought to restrain the EFCC from threatening or harassing her and prevent the agency from invading her residence under the guise of searching for exhibits.
The businesswoman also demanded N10 billion in damages from the commission over what she described as an invasion of her privacy.

According to the EFCC, Justice Liman held that the commission had the authority to search Achimugu’s residence after receiving intelligence concerning her alleged criminal activities.
“EFCC has the right to search the residence,” the judge was quoted as saying in the statement.
The commission added that the judge found that Achimugu and her legal representatives had failed to establish grounds to justify the damages sought. The court consequently dismissed her N10 billion compensation claim.
“The court therefore held that the matter lacked merit and was dismissed because ‘it is frivolous and it was brought in bad faith’,” the statement added.
