The Federal Government has completed a comprehensive review of curricula for basic, senior secondary, and technical education levels as part of efforts to enhance the quality of learning outcomes.
Announcing the development, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, said the review was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), and other key stakeholders.
According to a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Folasade Boriowo, the new framework is structured to balance subjects with deeper and more practical learning.
Under the revised curricula, pupils in Primaries 1–3 will take 9–10 subjects, while those in Primaries 4–6 will offer 10–12. Junior Secondary School students will take 12–14 subjects, Senior Secondary students 8–9 subjects, and Technical School students 9–11 subjects.
Professor Ahmad emphasized that the revision is aimed at reducing content overload, providing more time for effective learning, and ensuring that education remains relevant to contemporary realities.
The Ministry commended all stakeholders for their commitment and assured that the new curricula would be implemented with strict monitoring to guarantee effective adoption and a smooth transition across schools nationwide.
