Former Ogun State First Lady, Lucia Onabanjo, passes away at 100

The family of Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo has announced the death of their matriarch and wife of the former Ogun State governor, Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo.
She was 100 years old.
In a short statement issued on Tuesday, the family said it was “with deep sorrow but thanksgiving to Almighty God” that they announced the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo (1925–2026), who departed this life on Monday, January 11.


According to the statement, the family expressed gratitude to God for her “fulfilled life and the enduring legacy of love, strength and faith she leaves behind,” while also praying for the peaceful repose of her soul.
The late Lucia Onabanjo was the wife of Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, the first civilian governor of Ogun State, who governed during Nigeria’s Second Republic from October 1979 to December 1983.
Details of her funeral arrangements are yet to be made public.
