Former SDP Presidential Candidate Urges Arewa Consultative Forum to Champion National Unity and Good Governance

Former Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has urged the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and other regional organizations to use their influence in promoting national unity, accountability, and good governance across Nigeria.
Prince Adebayo made the appeal when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the ACF Secretariat in Abuja.
He explained that the visit was not politically motivated but part of ongoing consultations with key stakeholders committed to building a better Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former SDP flag bearer commended the ACF for its long-standing role in fostering national dialogue and stability, describing the Forum as a “fallback institution” that has provided leadership during critical moments in the country’s history.
“Northern Nigeria is not for Northerners alone; it is the crown jewel of the Nigerian state,” Adebayo stated. “The journey to nationhood began in 1914, and there’s no reverse gear in the vehicle of Nigeria—it’s a train moving forward.”
He decried what he called “episodic governance,” where development projects are often abandoned by successive administrations.
Adebayo also called on other regional groups such as Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Middle Belt Forum to work collectively toward fostering unity and national cohesion.
“If we understand the North well in politics, and if the North understands us, we will solve most of Nigeria’s problems. Religion should not determine our humanity or our opportunities,” he added.
Emphasizing the importance of youth empowerment, Prince Adebayo pledged that his brand of politics would be inclusive, accountable, and service-oriented.
“The politics we will do will leave no one behind. It won’t be based on origin but on accountability. We will give a government that is incorruptible and focused on service delivery,” he affirmed.

In his response, Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Dalhatu, commended Prince Adebayo’s passion for unity and national development.
“Your name has gone far and wide, and your desire for nation-building is well known,” Dalhatu said. “The ACF was established 25 years ago to promote the social, cultural, and economic interests of the North within the context of a united Nigeria. We are first and foremost Nigerians, and then Northern Nigerians.”
He stressed that the Forum values engagements with political leaders and reform-minded citizens on key issues such as insecurity, unemployment, and education, describing such interactions as vital to national progress.
Alhaji Dalhatu also announced that the ACF will mark its 25th anniversary in Kaduna and invited Prince Adebayo to participate in the celebrations.
“We are open and transparent and will continue to promote brotherhood across Nigeria. God bless you, and God bless our country,” he concluded.
