By Iyojo Ameh
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has affirmed that the people of Akwa Ibom, irrespective of political affiliation, are united in their commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope agenda for the collective good of Nigerians.
Governor Eno made this known on Friday during a New Year homage visit to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking during the visit, the governor said the homage was a traditional New Year gesture as well as an opportunity to appreciate Senator Akpabio for his leadership and for making Akwa Ibom State proud on the national stage.
He prayed for continued wisdom for the Senate President in supporting President Tinubu, assuring him of steadfast backing from the home front. According to him, Akwa Ibom remains united in its support for both President Tinubu and Senator Akpabio.
Governor Eno noted that only days earlier, youths of the state had organised a massive rally to endorse President Tinubu, Senator Akpabio and his administration. He stressed that despite minor disagreements that may arise, the overall political outlook of the state reflects unity across party lines, especially with regard to the 2027 political horizon.
The governor also commended Senator Akpabio for his New Year decision to withdraw all legal cases instituted against individuals who had defamed or slandered him, describing the action as a demonstration of strong character and exemplary leadership.
He said the gesture was inspiring, particularly to religious leaders, as it showed that political leaders can be receptive to moral guidance. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Governor Eno described forgiveness as a virtue of the strong, praising Akpabio for rising above personal hurt to embrace reconciliation.
In his response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Governor Eno for his support for President Tinubu, noting that the success of the President translates directly to the success of Nigeria. He acknowledged that while the President’s reform agenda may be challenging, it is yielding positive results.
Akpabio thanked the governor for uniting the state behind the President and assured him of continued support. He emphasised that all efforts are geared toward ensuring the success of President Tinubu, as national progress depends on it.
Expressing appreciation for the New Year visit, Akpabio quoted renowned author Chinua Achebe to underscore the importance of unity among kinsmen, noting that the current atmosphere of peace in Akwa Ibom State is commendable.
He praised Governor Eno for the visible achievements recorded under his leadership, particularly in infrastructure development, human empowerment and overall governance. According to Akpabio, the joy and unity fostered by the governor’s administration will have lasting benefits for generations to come.
The Senate President concluded by wishing Governor Eno a happy New Year and commending his efforts in sustaining peace and development across the state.
