Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the payment of over ₦17 million owed as uniform debt by the previous administration to executive principals of senior secondary schools in the state.

The approval came after a delegation of executive principals from selected government schools visited the Senior Secondary Education Board (SSEB) to appeal for the refund of the outstanding amount.

The committee, led by the Executive Principal of Egor Senior Secondary School, Onaifo Osemwengie, explained that a former consultant to the Ministry of Education, Chinelo Ezeobi, had set up a uniform committee under the directives of the former Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe. However, after the committee was dissolved, a debt of over ₦17 million remained unpaid to the principals.

While expressing appreciation to the principals for their patience, the Executive Chairman of the SSEB, Dr. Maureen Ekhoragbon, thanked Governor Okpebholo for approving the refund. She described him as a leader known for excellence, transparency, and accountability.

The executive principals also expressed gratitude to Dr. Ekhoragbon for her understanding and for ensuring their concerns were addressed.
