Group Alleges Ododo, Bello Engineering Crisis in Kogi APC, Urges Tinubu to Intervene
A group known as Kogi All Progressives Congress Patriot has drawn the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to what it described as an alleged crisis being created by Kogi State Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello within the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement by its National Coordinator Solomon Attah, the group accused the present and former governors of allegedly working to create division in the APC at a time when efforts should be focused on uniting the party for an overwhelming victory for President Tinubu and the APC in the state.
The group expressed surprise that rather than collaborate with “genuine minds” such as Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, and other like-minded stakeholders, the duo had allegedly been working to frustrate what was expected to be a decisive victory for the APC in Kogi State.
It lamented that instead of backing a popular candidate with the pedigree, clout and popularity to represent the people of Kogi East Senatorial District, the two leaders were allegedly seeking to impose a “puppet” as representative.
The group called on President Tinubu to intervene quickly in the interest of party unity and cohesion, warning that the situation could affect the APC’s margin of victory in the state.
“We are so concerned about the outcome of happenings and the motives of the duo of the Governor and former Governor in how and manner they are handling the affairs of Kogi APC,” the statement read.
“We are worried that for like minds like Sen. Sunday Karimi, who has been working to ensure we are solid in the APC even as far as Kogi East, the duo have chosen to fight him.”
“If our motive for the 2027 elections is about winning and winning for Mr. President, then the action of the duo is not pleasant.”
“We are worried that instead of giving us a candidate who can win overwhelmingly, we in Kogi East are worried that there is a clandestine move to impose on us an unpopular candidate, a puppet who will make election victory difficult,” the group added.
The group further urged the APC leadership and President Tinubu to take special interest in the yearnings and aspirations of party members in Kogi State, noting that “a stitch in time saves nine.”
