House Dissolves Ad Hoc Committees After Expiry of Assignment Deadlines
The House of Representatives has dissolved all its Ad Hoc Committees with effect from Friday, August 28, 2026, directing them to immediately cease all activities under their respective mandates.
The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim, on the directive of the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, following the expiration of deadlines earlier given to the committees to conclude their assignments and submit their reports.
Ibrahim said only two Ad Hoc Committees had sought and obtained extensions under Order Eighteen, Rule 5 of the Standing Orders, adding that the two-week extension granted to them had also expired.
He said the continued existence of the committees was no longer tenable, stressing that Ad Hoc Committees are temporary bodies established for specific and time-bound mandates.
He noted that Order Eighteen, Rule 11, Paragraph 5, requires committees to submit their reports within the period allotted to them.
The Clerk consequently directed chairmen of the affected committees to forward all outstanding reports, working documents, records and other materials relating to their assignments to the Office of the Clerk for safekeeping, while urging members to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
