By David Obama
The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Sen. Jarigbe Agom, has fulfilled his pledge by disbursing Fifty Million Naira (₦50m) to 500 beneficiaries drawn from the five Local Government Areas in the district.
This was disclosed in a statement released to the public by the programme’s coordinator, Citizen Agba Jalingo.
The initiative, tagged JariBurs, is an educational support programme introduced by Sen. Jarigbe Agom to ease the financial burdens of students in their pursuit of education.
According to the coordinator, the JariBurs Initiative stands out as the first intervention of its kind, devoid of political influence, with beneficiaries selected through a transparent and technology-driven process.
Agba Jalingo emphasized that the programme was not designed to reward political loyalists, but rather to support deserving constituents, insisting that the selection process remained unbiased and strictly merit-based.
Some of the beneficiaries, while expressing satisfaction with the process, said they believed it was divine that Agba Jalingo was chosen to oversee the initiative, as they had no political links or godfathers to speak for them. They noted that despite having no connections, they were able to benefit from the scheme.
They also expressed gratitude to Sen. Jarigbe Agom for the financial assistance and assured that the funds would be put to proper use.
