As political tension rises in Nasarawa over who will succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule in 2027, the immediate past Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt.

Hon.
Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has appealed to citizens, particularly his constituents, to remain calm and await the governor’s directive on the matter.

Balarabe made this appeal during a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders and leaders from his Umaisha/Ugya constituency in Toto Local Government Area, held in Lafia. He urged stakeholders to place their trust in Governor Sule, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The strategic meeting, which lasted over four hours, had in attendance prominent figures including the APC Chairman of Toto LGA, Alhaji Shuaibu Ahmed, the Secretary of Toto LGA, Hon. Muhammed Baba Yahaya, and the Administrator of Umaisha Area Council, Hon. Salihu Kasim Hasheem.

Balarabe, who currently serves as Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, called on his people to exercise patience, assuring them that Governor Sule will, at the appropriate time, guide the party on the choice of his successor ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, although several aspirants have already indicated interest, the APC must unite behind Governor Sule as the political leader of the state. “Leadership comes from God, and when the time comes, Governor Sule, by God’s will, will anoint the right candidate who will consolidate on his giant strides,” he stated.

The former Speaker further emphasized the importance of active participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He encouraged young people who have attained voting age to register, while advising others with errors in their details or those wishing to transfer their voting centers to their hometowns to take advantage of the opportunity provided by INEC.

On broader issues, Balarabe commended Governor Sule for restoring peace in Toto LGA after years of insecurity, including the activities of the terrorist group Darul Salam and recurring cases of kidnapping.

He also called for peaceful coexistence and unity with the returning Bassa community, stressing that the people of Toto must work together to foster development.

Speaking on his personal political journey, Balarabe described politics as his lifelong profession and affirmed that, when the time comes, he will answer the call of his people to serve in whatever capacity they deem fit.
