If Buhari Were A Christian!

Here lies in state the former President of the largest country in Africa. No expensive casket, no expanded list of burial committee members, the grave dug,the depth not up to six feet, no marble, no decorations, no canopies for entertainment. No loud music and unnecessary funfair. Solemn, with hearts in a mourning mood his remains were lowered into the grave and they walked away mournfully.

If he were a Christian, his remains would still be in the morgue. His burial date would be a discussion in weeks to come. Of course not something that would happen in the next two months. Many by now would have started jostling and lobying to be part of the burial committee for the gains and benefits very immeasurable.

Millions for Ashobi, billions for renovation of houses. Millions for posters and obituary announcements. Billions for entertainment and souvenirs. Always an Ofala Funeral, where all that matter in the political space would grace to showcase wealth, class and steeze.

Such is the luxury of Christain burial, a celebration where class and status are flaunted, oftentimes a parameter to measure how high or low ones family is. Many get indebted, paying debts encured from the flambouyant funeral of whom who may have not enjoyed the kind of food and drink served during their funeral in their lifetime.

I give it to them in their simplicity, a reflection of vanity upon vanity all is vanity. They understand better what death is, how solemn it should be treated against the extravagance of Christain funeral.

Life and all the funfair that it demands should at best be expressed and enjoyed while breath isn’t yet ceased. Death isn’t a time to impress and spent extravagantly for show. It is rather a time to mourn the passing unto eternity soul that was once here with us, which one would never see again. It calls for more sober reflection than unnecessary lavished expenses.
