By Iyojo Ameh
Nigeria has intensified its drive to attract investment into its blue economy, with the country’s Ambassador to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, PhD, engaging key players in the Spanish fisheries and maritime industries at CONXEMAR 2026 in Vigo, Galicia.
Ambassador Ikpeazu participated in the opening ceremony of the 27th International Frozen Seafood Exhibition on Tuesday, October 6, at the IFEVI Exhibition Centre, alongside senior Spanish government officials, business leaders and representatives of the global fisheries and aquaculture sector.

The high profile event was attended by the President of the Xunta de Galicia, senior representatives of the Spanish Government, the President of CONXEMAR, the Mayor of Vigo, members of the diplomatic corps and other stakeholders in the seafood industry.
CONXEMAR is one of the world’s leading trade exhibitions dedicated exclusively to the frozen seafood sector, attracting businesses and industry stakeholders involved in fisheries, aquaculture, marine services, packaging and related activities.
On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Ikpeazu held discussions with CONXEMAR officials and representatives of several companies, including firms operating in packaging, marine and fisheries related industries.

The engagements provided an opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s investment potential and explore areas of collaboration with Spanish companies as part of efforts to develop the country’s blue economy.
The Nigerian Embassy in Spain said the meetings were part of its ongoing initiatives to promote Nigeria as an investment destination and facilitate stronger economic and commercial ties between Nigeria and Spain.

The participation is expected to create further opportunities for Spanish investors to explore Nigeria’s fisheries, aquaculture, maritime and wider blue economy sectors, while strengthening bilateral business relations between the two countries.
