Tinubu Hails Modi’s 25 Years In Leadership, Says Nigeria Values India Partnership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 25th anniversary of his assumption of public office, describing the milestone as a rare achievement in a democratic system.

Modi marked 25 years in government on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, having first assumed office in 2001 as Chief Minister and Head of Government of Gujarat. He later became Prime Minister of India in 2014 after more than 12 years in office in the Indian state.

In a congratulatory message issued by the State House, Tinubu said Modi’s 25 years of continuous public service reflected the confidence of the Indian people in his leadership.

The President commended Modi’s development-focused leadership, particularly in infrastructure, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation, which he said had contributed to India’s economic transformation.

Tinubu also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and India, describing the two countries as important partners and leading voices of the Global South.

The Nigerian President recalled Modi’s State Visit to Abuja in November 2024, during which Nigeria conferred on him the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.

According to Tinubu, the visit strengthened bilateral cooperation in several strategic areas, including trade and investment, energy, defence and security, healthcare, education and technology.

He said Nigeria and India shared a common commitment to promoting a fairer, more inclusive and representative international order, expressing confidence that bilateral relations would continue to expand.

Tinubu wished Modi good health, strength and continued success as he serves the people of India.

The President conveyed the congratulations on behalf of the Nigerian government and people, as well as in his personal capacity.
