The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shifted the deadline for political campaigns in the Osun State governorship election to August 13, 2026, following a revision of the election timetable.

The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

INEC said the adjustment aligns with its updated schedule released on February 26, 2026, in which the Osun governorship election was rescheduled from August 8 to August 15, 2026.

In line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, the Commission stated that all political campaigns must end 24 hours before election day. As a result, parties and candidates are required to conclude their campaign activities by midnight on August 13.

The electoral body urged stakeholders, including political parties and candidates, to comply strictly with the revised timeline, stressing that adherence to electoral regulations is vital for maintaining order and fairness in the process.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections, noting that the adjustment forms part of ongoing preparations aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
