The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says political parties fielding candidates in the forth coming Area Council Election in the FCT can now commence campaigns ahead of the poll coming up February 2026.

A statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee Mr Sam Olumekun says it is in line with the provision of section 94 sub section 1 of the Electoral Act 2022

The statement reminds political parties, candidates and their supporters to avoid use of abusive language, carry out physical attacks on opponents during campaigns, processions and meetings or destroy their campaign materials

It also warns that all parties and candidates must be given unimpeded access to public facilities for media campaign, outdoor advertising, public rallies and meetings

The statement adds that section 95 sub 2 of the Electoral Act 2022 prohibits the use of incumbency to the advantage or disadvantage of any party or candidate
