INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026: A MESSAGE TO THE YOUTH OF NIGERIA

Published

on

On this occasion of the 2026 International Youth Day, I warmly salute the resilient, creative and enterprising youth of Nigeria, whose energy, talents and aspirations continue to represent one of our nation’s greatest assets.

The theme of this year’s observance, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” speaks powerfully to the Nigerian experience.

Across our diverse communities, cultures and circumstances, young Nigerians may confront different challenges, but our aspirations remain remarkably similar: the desire for dignity, opportunity, meaningful participation and a better and more sustainable future.

Nigeria’s youth must, therefore, see themselves not merely as leaders of tomorrow, but as partners and leaders of today. The future of our nation is already being shaped by young Nigerians in our Universities, workplaces, businesses, farms, laboratories, creative industries, technology hubs and communities.

As a nation, we must continue to create the enabling environment for young people to acquire the skills, knowledge, confidence and opportunities required to compete and succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

For us at the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), youth development resonates deeply with our mandate of promoting Nigeria’s goodwill and international cooperation through the deployment of skilled Nigerians to partner countries. Our Volunteers demonstrate that Nigerian young professionals can make meaningful contributions far beyond our shores, while also strengthening the bonds of friendship between Nigeria and the international community.

I ,therefore, encourage our young people to embrace excellence, integrity, innovation, patriotism and service. Let us transform our diversity from a source of division into a platform for collaboration. Let our different circumstances never obscure the common aspirations that unite us as Nigerians and as citizens of the global community.

To the Nigerian youth: your voice matters, your ideas matter, your talents matter, and your contribution to nation-building matters. Do not underestimate the power of your generation to redefine Nigeria’s story and influence the wider world.

On this International Youth Day, I call on young Nigerians to remain hopeful, purposeful and determined. The challenges before us are real, but so are the opportunities. Together, we can build a Nigeria in which every young person has the opportunity to live with dignity, fulfil his or her potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Happy International Youth Day 2026 to the vibrant and promising youth of Nigeria.

God bless Nigeria
