JUST IN: Presidency Withdraws Appointment of Turkey Ambassador
The Presidency has reversed the appointment of Usman Dakingari Suleiman as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Turkey.
The development was confirmed shortly after an earlier announcement by the Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who on Thursday night disclosed the appointment of four ambassadors, including Dakingari, a former governor of Kebbi State.
In the initial statement, Onanuga had said:
“Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, former governor of Kebbi, is the ambassador-designate to Turkey.”
He also revealed that President Bola Tinubu, who returned over the weekend from a three-week overseas trip, is scheduled to visit Turkey next week.
However, hours after the announcement, the Presidency issued a fresh statement reversing Dakingari’s appointment. Onanuga explained that the decision followed a mix-up in the naming of the ambassador-designate to Turkey.
“Please note that there was a naming mix-up for the ambassador-designate to Turkey. The posting is undergoing review. Thanks for your understanding,” the statement read.
The Presidential spokesman clarified that the reversal affected only Dakingari’s posting, stressing that the appointments of the other ambassadors-designate remain unchanged.
Those unaffected by the review are Ayodele Oke (ambassador-designate to France), Lateef Are (ambassador-designate to the United States of America), and Amin Dalhatu (high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom).
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formally notify the governments of the three countries of their respective ambassadors-designate, in line with established diplomatic procedures. (Daily Trust)
