Kano Task Force Unveils Nine-Point Strategy Against Drug Abuse

The Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking (MATFDAT) in Kano State has inaugurated nine committees as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

The committees were inaugurated on Friday, August 21, 2026, by the task force Chairman, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, who urged members to carry out their responsibilities with commitment and professionalism.
Rimin Gado said the success of the task force would depend on the dedication and effectiveness of the committees. He urged members to work together and remain focused on reducing drug-related challenges across the state.
Lamara Garba, a member of the Media and Publicity Committee, disclosed this in a statement, quoting the chairman as saying that the committees were established to provide a more coordinated approach to tackling drug abuse and trafficking.
The nine committees are Finance, Media and Publicity; Advocacy and Sensitisation; Licences, Inventory and Verification; Compliance, Inspection and Electronic Tracking; Monitoring and Implementation; Intelligence; Reformative and Traditional Council; and Anti-Drug Coordination Committee.
Rimin Gado urged members to regard their appointments as a call to service and ensure that their activities produce measurable results.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation among the committees and other stakeholders involved in the campaign against drug abuse and trafficking.
The inauguration is part of efforts by the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force to strengthen coordination and develop a more effective and sustained response to drug-related challenges.
