Kogi East Communities Receive Lifeline as Senator Echocho Commences Road Grading Projects
Residents of several communities in Kogi East have received a significant infrastructure boost following the commencement of grading works on selected rural roads across the senatorial district by Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho.
The exercise began with the Ibobo–Emewe Ogane road in Biraidu District.The project is designed to improve transportation and stimulate economic activities within the area. It is expected to strengthen connectivity among rural communities, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.
Representing the senator at the flag-off ceremony, Alhaji Akpa Anana stated that the initiative demonstrates Senator Echocho’s commitment to tackling infrastructural challenges affecting communities in Kogi East.
He emphasized that quality road infrastructure plays a vital role in economic growth and social development, adding that the senator remains focused on connecting farmers to markets, workers to employment opportunities, students to educational institutions, and patients to healthcare services through improved road networks.
According to him, Senator Echocho recognizes the strategic importance of rural roads in driving development and enhancing the living standards of the people.
The project contractor, Alhaji Mikail Isa, explained that the Federal Government originally approved the grading of a two-kilometre stretch beginning from Ajakeya Junction.
However, he disclosed that Senator Echocho directed that the project be extended to Emewe Ogane so that additional communities could benefit from the intervention.
He assured residents that the project would be completed promptly and in accordance with approved standards.
Traditional rulers in the area welcomed the development, describing it as a major step toward revitalizing economic activities and improving the well-being of residents.
Speaking on behalf of His Royal Highness, Chief Jonah Idris Okai, the Onu Gbologwo Emewe, HRH Mathew Daikwo, commended the senator for prioritizing infrastructure development and responding to the longstanding needs of the people.
He noted that the improved road network would ease transportation difficulties, promote commercial activities, and strengthen social interactions among communities across the district.
Residents of Abocho, Ajakeya, and Emewe Ogane also expressed appreciation for the project, noting that the poor condition of the road had increased transportation costs and hampered economic activities for many years.
Many described the intervention as a timely response to the infrastructural needs of the area and expressed confidence that it would provide relief to farmers, traders, and commuters who depend heavily on the route.
The road grading initiative is part of Senator Echocho’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and promote development throughout Kogi East, where access roads remain a major challenge for many rural communities.
The project is expected to enhance local commerce, improve access to essential services, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the senatorial district.
