London Shooting: 14-Year-Old Nigerian Teen Killed, Three Suspects in Custody

A 14-year-old Nigerian teenager, Eghosa Ogbebor, has been shot dead in London, in a tragic incident that has stirred grief and concern among both residents and Nigerians abroad.

The fatal shooting occurred at about 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, along Lord Warwick Street in the Woolwich area of south-east London.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police responded swiftly to reports of gunfire, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts.

Police have identified the teenager as Eghosa Ogbebor, while confirming that his family has been notified and is receiving support from specially trained officers.

In connection with the incident, three suspects—two teenagers aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man—have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody as investigations intensify.

The lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, described the killing as shocking and deeply troubling, particularly given the victim’s age. She appealed to the public to assist with any useful information.

Eyewitnesses recounted chaotic scenes near a pub in the area, with people running for safety after hearing a gunshot. Some claimed to have seen a young person fleeing the scene shortly after the incident.

Floral tributes have been placed at the site of the shooting, as forensic teams continue to examine evidence. Police presence has also been increased to reassure residents.

Reacting, Sadiq Khan condemned the killing, stressing that violence has no place in the city and assuring the public of enhanced security measures.
