The Presidential Candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has promised to overhaul the nation’s security system, ensure the right pricing of petroleum products, and guarantee food security across the country if elected President in 2027.

Makinde made the declaration in Ibadan on Thursday during the official announcement of his bid to contest for Nigeria’s presidency in the forthcoming general elections.
He described it as laughable that Nigeria, despite being an oil-producing nation, has left its citizens languishing in poverty due to post-colonial policies that embrace international pricing of oil and petroleum products.
“What are the social security and contract between ordinary Nigerians and their government when average Nigerians are struggling for survival because of bad leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with no visible development?” he asked.
“We are made the Chief Security Officers of our states as governors without the enabling apparatus and control over security agencies. So what have we done?”
“Our citizens are trapped under the threats of banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling and other criminal activities, while security officers are busy playing politics under the guise of leadership acumen.”
“For weeks, citizens of Oyo, Borno and many other states have remained in the custody of kidnappers across the country, with no visible efforts by the Federal Government to address the ugly situation.”
“It is high time we reset the country for transparent and visible development that holds ordinary Nigerians in high regard rather than embarking on wasteful ventures that have no direct bearing on our people.”
While promising to replicate the all-round development achieved in Oyo State over the last seven years at the federal level, Makinde assured Nigerians of an indigenous agricultural system that would ensure all regions benefit from stable government policies for farmers and large-scale bumper harvests.
He called on Nigerians to support him as the people of the South-West have done, stressing that leadership driven by the interest of the people translates into massive development.
Engineer Makinde also assured Nigerians that he would continue to lead with the fear of God and place the welfare of citizens above all else.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, described Makinde’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate as the most acceptable and transparent decision reached by delegates and party chairmen from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to him, Makinde is the only candidate capable of taking Nigeria to the promised land in the next political dispensation.
Dantalle lamented that the days when Nigerians clamoured for “Ghana Must Go” were gone, noting that current events suggest a situation where “Nigeria Must Go,” citing developments in South Africa, a country Nigerians once supported in its struggle for freedom.
He passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and expressed confidence in his ability to govern Nigeria conscientiously and with the fear of God.
Governor Makinde was subsequently presented with a certificate of return and decorated with the flag of the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
