The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has called on Muslims to use the Maulud celebration as a moment for deep reflection on the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Federal Government had earlier declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Maulud, the commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

In his goodwill message, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the Prophet as a perfect role model for humanity.

“As we celebrate the birthday of our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), let us reflect on his virtues and teachings, and follow his example in our daily lives. Let us imbibe the lessons of compassion, peace, and support for one another as preached by our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” he said.

The Deputy Senate President also urged the Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to continue to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity, stressing that unity remains vital in addressing the country’s challenges.

Senator Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to enacting laws that will address the nation’s pressing issues.

“The Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, under my chairmanship, is diligently working on constitutional amendments as demanded by Nigerians. We recently conducted zonal public hearings across the six geopolitical zones.

“These hearings attracted a massive turnout of stakeholders nationwide, and critical issues such as local government autonomy, electoral and judicial reforms, state creation, state police, and inclusive governance were extensively discussed. We are determined to leave no stone unturned in bridging the gaps in our laws for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the statement reads.

The National Assembly is scheduled to resume from its annual recess on September 23, 2025.
