Methodist Prelate Urges Tough Action Against Insecurity Sponsors
The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Reverend Oliver Ali-Aba, has called on the Federal Government to take drastic action against sponsors of insecurity and economic saboteurs in the country.
Addressing the 41st Council of Lay Presidents in Abuja, Most Reverend Ali-Aba said the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State poses a serious threat to educational development in Nigeria.
The Methodist Prelate maintained that the prevailing security challenges have also worsened the country’s economic hardship and increased the level of poverty.
He stressed the need for the three tiers of government to listen to the concerns of Nigerians and provide effective solutions to the nation’s challenges.
“That is why we call on the three tiers of government in Nigeria to listen to our cries the same way Moses heard the cries of Israel at the Red Sea and presented them to God for an outright solution,” he said.
He added that at a time like this, the Church would continue to play its role by praying for God to end the bloodshed across the country and bring economic relief to Nigerians.
In his remarks, the Conference Lay President, Mr. Ifeanyi Okechukwu, said the annual meeting brings together Lay Presidents to strengthen evangelism and church administration across Methodist dioceses nationwide.
Mr. Okechukwu assured participants that the conference would remain committed to promoting spiritual growth while complementing the Church’s social responsibility to society.
According to him, the conference will also develop strategies to ensure rapid growth of the dioceses and expand church planting in rural communities.
More than 300 Lay Presidents are participating in the three-day conference.
