My Husband Is Irresponsible, He Got Me Pregnant Before Marriage and I Moved In With Him – Bashir

The Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has heard a case between a couple, Abideen and Bashirat, whose marriage has collapsed following accusations of irresponsibility and threats of violence.

According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune, the case was brought before the court after Abideen filed for divorce, alleging that his wife was stubborn, disrespectful, and had threatened to harm him.

He urged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant him custody of their children. Abideen further claimed that Bashirat disobeyed him frequently, created public disturbances, and undermined his authority as the head of the household.

Bashirat, however, denied the allegations and accused her husband of neglecting his responsibilities as a provider. She insisted that she had been the one catering to the family’s needs through her business.

She explained that she moved in with Abideen after becoming pregnant while they were dating, but he never carried out traditional marital rites such as paying her bride price. She also accused him of compelling her to adopt religious practices without her consent.

In her words: “My lord, my husband lied that he paid my bride price. He impregnated me while we were dating and I moved in with him. My husband is irresponsible.”
