Nasarawa Communities to Benefit from Maikaya Foundation Solar Installations
By David Odama
A frontline politician and governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Musa Muhammad Maikaya, has pledged to provide solar installations to communities across Nasarawa State to complement the state government’s efforts at improving the energy system.
Dr. Maikaya, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Maikaya Development Foundation, made the pledge while interfacing with Tiv communities and traders at the Lafia Modern Market. He said the initiative is aimed at supporting the efforts of Governor Abdullahi Sule in reducing insecurity and improving the quality of life of citizens in the state.
According to him, the project, when completed as conceptualised, will add value to Governor Sule’s vision of uplifting the social status of the people of Nasarawa State, stimulating economic activities, attracting investors, and boosting the revenue fortunes of the populace.
Dr. Maikaya explained that the meeting with the leadership of the market and the Tiv community was to discuss modalities for the execution and implementation of the solar installation project.
The philanthropist noted that every generation is faced with defining moments—periods when decisions taken shape the direction of the future. He stressed that for Nasarawa State, such a moment is already unfolding.
“It is here, unfolding in real time, guided by the collective hopes and expectations of its people. The future of any society is not built by chance; it is built through deliberate choices, steady leadership, and a shared commitment to progress.
“As conversations continue across communities, one theme consistently emerges: the desire for continuity, stability, and purposeful advancement is key in our collective decisions and aspirations,” Maikaya said.
He further observed that Nasarawa State has witnessed notable efforts toward development and institutional strengthening under the administration of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, with foundations laid in infrastructure, governance reforms, and economic direction. According to him, these gains should be protected and expanded rather than disrupted.
“The idea of continuity is not about resisting change; it is about managing change responsibly. A society moves forward most effectively when transitions are guided by vision rather than abrupt shifts. Stability allows policies to mature, institutions to strengthen, and development to reach deeper into communities,” he added.
Maikaya stated that Nasarawa today stands at a promising intersection where experience meets aspiration, and where established foundations meet emerging possibilities. He said the decisions taken at this time will determine whether progress accelerates or stalls.
“In this Maikaya moment, the focus is not only on leadership, but on legacy. What kind of state will be handed to the next generation? What structures will endure? What opportunities will expand?
“The future is never inherited by chance; it is built step by step, decision by decision, by those who understand that leadership is ultimately about tomorrow. I therefore urge you to continue supporting the government in power to realise your desires and aspirations,” he declared.
Earlier, a representative of the Director-General, Market Management Bureau, Yakubu Almed Younger, Abubakar Musa Wambai, pledged the support of businessmen and women for Maikaya’s governorship ambition in 2027. He noted that the solar installations, when completed, would benefit both traders and customers.
He also appreciated the Maikaya Development Foundation for the gesture, noting that the market had been without electricity for some time.
In the same vein, Maikaya met with the leadership of the Tiv Renewed Hope Grassroots Mobilisation Movement, where the community chairman, Solomon Chunku, assured him of the group’s support in his quest for the governorship, citing his track record of excellence and selfless service.
“I wish to formally introduce to you the Tiv Renewed Hope Grassroots Mobilisation Movement, fully registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. We are a structured political organisation deeply rooted across the 13 local government areas.
“As you prepare to lead this state, we ask for inclusion. We seek to be fully integrated into your programmes and vision. We are not just supporters; we are partners in progress,” Chunku said.
It would be recalled that the Maikaya Development Foundation had earlier disbursed scholarships to 730 indigent students across Nasarawa State as part of its sustained commitment to education, youth development, and human capital advancement.
The scholarship programme followed an overwhelming response from applicants, with over 15,000 students applying through the foundation’s online portal. After a rigorous screening exercise, 730 candidates were selected as beneficiaries studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
