The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) says it has plans to support Nigerian students who apply for its loan scheme by helping them secure employment after graduation.
The Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Dr. Oluwafemi Akinfala stated this during a media engagement held in Abuja.
Dr. Akinfala explained that the agency will establish a job portal to assist graduates in finding employment after completing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), thereby enabling them to repay their loans.
He told journalists that the job portal will be launched within a year, emphasizing that repayment of the loans would only begin once the beneficiaries are gainfully employed.
“NELFUND is trying to open a job portal to assist graduates find a job to be able to pay back their loans, and that will happen in one year’s time,” he said.
Responding to journalists’ questions regarding beneficiaries who might remain unemployed after the two-year grace period post-NYSC, Dr. Akinfala noted that such individuals must inform the agency through a sworn court affidavit.
He said, “The beneficiary should notify NELFUND by a sworn court affidavit every three months after two years post-NYSC, if still unable to gain employment.”
