NIMET prediction: Nasarawa evacuates over 150 households from flood prone areas in five locations

The Nasarawa state government on Saturday announced an evacuation of over 150 households from the floods prone areas of the state

Chief prosecutor of Environmental sanitation exercise in the state ministry of Environment and Natural Resources , Alhaji Abubakar, disclosed this while fielding questions from Journalists shortly after monitoring this month’s sanitation in Lafia, the state capital.

Muhammed said the over 150 households were evacuated from the high proneed flood areas to high level areas.

He explained that the move was to avert being caught in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency prediction which listed Nasarawa as amongst the states to be affected by the predicted flooding in Nigeria.

The Chief prosecutor added that Toto in Toto,, Tunga in Awe, Agbashi in Doma and Look in Nasarawa were the first areas to be attended due to the most prevalent situation as far as flooding in Nasarawa were concerned.

“It is true that NIMET in its prediction listed Nasarawa amongst the state to be affected in this year’s flooding. It is one of the measures we have taken to reduce the devastating effect of flood disaster in Nasarawa state.

” The second measures we have evolved is the placement of indicators in some areas which is giving us information and helping us to monitor the flood situation in most of the prone areas in the state.

On this months sanitation exercise Abubakar Muhammed said a total of 118 defaulters were arrested across 13 local government areas for violating various sanitation laws in the state.

“We arrested a total of 118 sanitation violators during this months exercise. They will be prosecuted and sentence to jail for two or more months or pay fine where necessary to serve as detriment to others”.

“Governor Abdullahi Sule is concern about the sanity of the state. He has made it as one of the top priority of his administration to ensure that the state remains one of the cleanliness. In this wise residents must abide by the station le by keeping their surrounding clean at all times” Muhammed declared.

He warned motorists playing the state as well as the residents to ensure that their surroundings, especially shops must remain clean especially during the sanitation period.
