By Iyojo Ameh
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has strengthened its anti-corruption framework with the inauguration and induction of new members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), reaffirming its commitment to integrity, accountability, and ethical service delivery.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Charles Anosike, said the move marks a key step in reinforcing internal systems designed to prevent corruption and unethical practices within the agency.
He explained that the initiative aligns with NiMet’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, anchored on the values of Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence (I-PACE), aimed at improving institutional performance and service delivery.

According to him, the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit remains a critical internal mechanism for ensuring compliance and promoting accountability among staff.
He also disclosed that the unit has been expanded from five to eight members to improve efficiency and inclusiveness.
Anosike stressed that the fight against corruption cannot be left to a few individuals, urging all staff members to uphold ethical standards as part of the agency’s organisational culture.
Representing the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Olusegun Adigun commended NiMet’s management for strengthening ACTU operations and called for deeper collaboration between both institutions to enhance transparency in public service.
He noted that effective anti-corruption efforts require sustained cooperation between agencies and strong institutional accountability mechanisms.
The NiMet boss charged newly inducted ACTU members to carry out their duties with diligence, professionalism, and integrity, assuring them of management’s full support in carrying out their mandate.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to transparency and national development, describing the inauguration as part of broader efforts to build a more accountable and ethically driven public institution.
