The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has pledged to deliver a performance-focused second term aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electricity transmission network and improving bulk power delivery nationwide.

He made the commitment on Wednesday in Abuja during a town hall meeting with staff at TCN headquarters, following his reappointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another five-year term.

According to a statement by TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, Abdulaziz described his reappointment as a renewed mandate to deepen reforms in line with the Federal Government’s power sector agenda.

He said the goal is to ensure “practical, measurable and sustainable reforms” that will improve electricity delivery and make the transmission system more reliable and efficient.

The TCN boss noted that Nigeria’s transmission capacity has improved over the years, rising from about 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to over 8,700 megawatts currently, driven by sustained investments in infrastructure and expansion projects.

He disclosed that over 82 transformers were installed within 23 months, including several high-capacity 300MVA units deployed across major transmission stations such as Ikeja West, Osogbo, Jos, Gombe, Kano, Abuja, Benin, and Enugu.

Abdulaziz also highlighted support from development partners including the World Bank, African Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Agence Française de Développement, noting that these collaborations have helped expand and rehabilitate critical grid infrastructure.

He said recent interventions have strengthened grid stability, reduced system disturbances, and improved operational coordination across regions.

Despite public criticism, he maintained that TCN remains staffed with highly skilled professionals whose efforts have driven recent improvements in transmission performance.

Looking ahead, he stressed that the focus of his new term would be to ensure that infrastructure gains translate into stable and consistent electricity supply to distribution companies and end users.

He also called for stronger cooperation between management, unions, and staff, saying teamwork would be essential to achieving the company’s targets.

Earlier, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abiodun Afolabi Fadahunsi, said the town hall meeting was designed to strengthen communication, transparency, and staff engagement.

Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider, Oluwabenga Ajiboye, urged staff commitment to organisational goals, while Executive Director, Finance and Accounts, Chuks Ochije, assured that workers’ welfare and entitlements would continue to receive management attention.
