The Labour Party (LP) has declared its readiness to welcome back its immediate past National Chairman, Julius Abure, along with other interested members, as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, disclosed this after observing the inaugural meeting of the party’s newly inaugurated National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.

He explained that the party has embraced an open-door policy aimed at promoting unity and inclusiveness among its members.
“Our doors are open. We are ready to welcome back everyone, including the immediate past chairman and all those who wish to be part of the party,” he said.
Governor Otti noted that reconciliation efforts are ongoing, stressing that the focus remains on reuniting former members and strengthening the party’s structure.
“There are no divisions. Everybody is a winner. What we are doing is to bring people together and move the party forward,” he added.
He further stated that the recent convention and inauguration of the NWC indicate that the party is stabilizing and positioning itself for future electoral contests.
“As an observer, I can confirm that the meeting went very well, and the leadership has the capacity to guide the party through this next phase,” he said.
Governor Otti also congratulated the National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, expressing confidence in her ability to lead the party effectively over the next four years.
“We have absolute confidence in her capacity and ability to lead, just like she did in the last two years,” he stated.
He commended members of the NWC and expressed optimism that they would demonstrate competence in handling party affairs, particularly during the forthcoming primaries.
On reconciliation, the governor revealed that several members of the Abure-led faction participated in the convention and have been reintegrated into the party structure.
“Over 25 state chairmen attended the convention, and some have been returned as members of the newly elected National Working Committee,” he noted.
Reiterating the party’s stance, he emphasized a “no victor, no vanquished” approach, underscoring unity and collective progress.
Speaking on the 2027 elections, Governor Otti affirmed that the party is fully prepared to contest and provide a credible platform for aspirants.
He also dismissed the Ibadan opposition summit, stating that the LP neither participated in the meeting nor is bound by any decisions taken there.
