Northern Senators Back Lawan Ahmed Mohammed as 17th Emir of Gumel
The Northern Senators Forum has welcomed the appointment and ascension of His Royal Highness, Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, PhD, as the 17th Emir of Gumel Emirate in Jigawa State, congratulating the government and people of the state.
The Forum also commiserated with the people of Gumel Emirate over the passing of the late Emir, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, whose 45-year reign was marked by service, peace and devotion.
It appreciated the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, for his support and participation, while commending Senator Babangida Hussaini, Walin Kazaure, for hosting and facilitating the delegation’s visit on Friday, 11th September 2026.
The Forum also expressed appreciation to distinguished Senators, traditional leaders, elected representatives and other eminent personalities who participated in the condolence visit and the welcoming of the new Emir.

The Northern Senators Forum expressed confidence in the new Emir’s ability to lead the Gumel Emirate, noting that his academic achievements, practical expertise and years of service have prepared him for the responsibilities of the revered throne.

According to the Forum, His Royal Highness’s sterling educational background, which includes a PhD in Computer and Communication Systems, as well as his experience in mathematics, computing, engineering and cybersecurity, will position him to promote education, youth development, innovation and sustainable growth.

The Forum assured the new Emir of its continued prayers, support and constructive engagement, while urging the people of Gumel Emirate to rally around him and cooperate in advancing peace, unity, development and prosperity.
It prayed that Allah (SWT) would grant the Emir wisdom, good health, strength and divine guidance as he begins his reign.
