As part of the engagement, the NTAC delegation held strategic meetings at the Federal Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as at the Nigerian Embassy in the country. These interactions were focused on enhancing bilateral relations and promoting collaboration within the South-South Cooperation framework.
The visit highlights the importance the Tinubu administration places on strengthening cooperation among developing nations, particularly in areas such as technical assistance, capacity building, education, healthcare, and cultural exchange. It also aligns with Nigeria’s foreign policy goals of promoting solidarity, shared prosperity, and sustainable development across the Global South.
During the engagement, the delegation held productive discussions with key government stakeholders in Trinidad and Tobago, aimed at deepening collaboration under the South-South Cooperation framework. The deliberations were attended by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Trinidad and Tobago, Dankaro Angye Ashumate, alongside the Head of Chancery, Mrs. Linda Hills, reflecting the strong commitment of both countries to advancing diplomatic and developmental ties.
The discussions underscored Nigeria’s longstanding leadership in technical aid delivery, leveraging its human capital to support partner countries through the deployment of skilled professionals.
Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to expand its technical assistance programmes to Trinidad and Tobago, building on the historical ties and shared cultural heritage between both nations. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of positioning Nigeria as a key driver of development cooperation and a dependable partner in addressing common challenges faced by developing countries.
The delegation also included the Director of Programmes, Ambassador Bello Jaye, and other senior officials of the Corps, whose contributions were vital in shaping discussions and identifying priority areas for collaboration.
The bilateral engagement also provided an opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s achievements under the Technical Aid Corps Scheme, which has deployed thousands of professionals to beneficiary countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
This visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening relations between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, while reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the principles of South-South Cooperation, mutual respect, and shared development.
