The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has tasked the NUJ Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Abuja Operations Chapel with maintaining professionalism, balance, and ethical standards in reporting to promote national development.

Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, gave the charge in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the newly elected chapel executives.

She emphasized the need for journalists to remain committed to integrity, accountability, and ethical practices.

“We are happy that the FRCN NUJ, Abuja Operations is made up of people of proven capacity, trusted integrity, and transparency who are ready to give account of their stewardship,” she stated.

Comrade Ike commended the immediate past Chairman, Madam Shakirat Alabi, for her inclusive leadership style, assuring that the Council would continue to train and retrain members to sustain professionalism.

She urged the chapel leadership to design innovative programmes that will actively engage all members.

“I want to appreciate the immediate past Chairman, Madam Shakirat Alabi, who did very well. Her leadership style is a testament to inclusivity and giving members a sense of belonging. As a chapel, there is a lot you can do for your members, while the Council will continue to provide training on ethical journalism. Leaders at the chapel level should also initiate innovative programmes that carry everyone along,” she said.

She further reminded members that ethical journalism must remain their watchword.

“It is a new era to change the narrative. NUJ FCT Council will do everything possible to promote members’ welfare, and this applies equally to chapel leaders. Also, encourage your members to pay their dues, because when the need arises for support, we must be able to verify authentic membership and contributions,” Grace added.

In his remarks, Chairman of FRCN NUJ Abuja Operations, Comrade Oduyemi Odumade, lauded the Grace Ike-led administration for its achievements since assuming office. He pledged the chapel’s loyalty in defending press freedom, promoting members’ welfare, and consolidating the Council’s leadership style of openness, inclusivity, and vision.

“We are particularly grateful that some of our members have benefitted from training programmes and medical outreaches. These efforts have touched lives, and we sincerely appreciate them. We also wish to reaffirm our identity with the Union. We are FRCN Abuja Operations Chapel, not Kapital FM Chapel, since our mandate covers the entire Abuja Operations. We are eager to work closely with the Council in training, advocacy, and NUJ activities,” Odumade said.

The Vice Chairman of the chapel, Mr. Tejumola Saliu, also praised the NUJ FCT leadership and reiterated the executives’ commitment to supporting the Council’s vision.
