One person has been confirmed dead while another sustained critical injuries following a mid-air collision involving two helicopters on Sunday over a city in New Jersey, according to local authorities.
The Hammonton Police Department disclosed that one of the helicopters burst into flames before making a crash landing, prompting emergency responders to swiftly move in to put out the fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said only the pilots were aboard the two aircraft at the time of the accident and confirmed that a federal investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision.
Hammonton is located about 35 miles (56 kilometres) southeast of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, near the Atlantic City Expressway.
Police authorities further revealed that one of the pilots involved was receiving urgent medical attention for what they described as “critical, life-threatening injuries.”
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that the incident involved an Enstrom 280C helicopter and an Enstrom F-28A helicopter. The collision occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. EST (16:25 GMT).
Both aircraft are light helicopters typically designed to carry no more than three people.
The incident comes months after a separate aviation tragedy in January, when a military helicopter collided with a passenger aircraft in Washington, D.C., resulting in the deaths of 67 people.
According to FAA statistics, the frequency of fatal helicopter crashes has, on average, declined over the past three years.
