The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has apprehended two well-known bandits and kidnapping masterminds linked to a series of violent crimes across Katsina, Zamfara, Niger and Kwara States.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.

According to the statement, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID–IRT), stationed in Kwara State, carried out a covert operation on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with officers of the Kwara State Police Command and led to the interception and arrest of two members of a notorious banditry and kidnapping syndicate along the Komen–Masallaci axis in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The suspects were identified as Abubakar Usman, also known as Siddi ‘m’, aged 26, and Shehu Mohammadu, popularly called Gide ‘m’, aged 30. Both were arrested at Komen–Masallaci village in Kaiama LGA at the time of the operation.
The police disclosed that several items were recovered from the suspects, including a brand new red Honda Ace 125 motorcycle valued at ₦1,850,000. Investigations revealed that the motorcycle was purchased with proceeds from ransom payments. Also recovered were ₦500,000 in cash, identified as unspent ransom money, and one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 20 rounds of live ammunition.
Preliminary investigations showed that the arrested individuals are members of a dangerous banditry and kidnapping gang that has been terrorising communities in Zamfara, Katsina, Niger and Kwara States. Further findings also revealed that the gang is involved in supplying arms and ammunition to other criminal elements.
The police added that both suspects are currently cooperating with investigators to facilitate the arrest of other gang members and the recovery of additional weapons.
The Force recalled that one of the suspects, Abubakar Usman, also known as Siddi, was recently identified as the individual seen in a viral social media video displaying firearms and large sums of money.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and commitment. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to dismantle criminal networks, tackle banditry and kidnapping, and ensure the safety and security of citizens across the country.
