Rejoinder: Group Dismisses OBO Movement’s Claims as Baseless Political Propaganda

Attention has been drawn to what has been described as a laughable and misleading publication attributed to a faceless group identifying itself as the “OBO Movement.

” The group, alleged to be a front for Senator Ben Ayade and Hon. Legor Idagbo, is accused of promoting a false narrative that the Senate seat for Cross River North Senatorial District is exclusively reserved for the Obudu, Bekwarra, and Obanliku Federal Constituency.

The rejoinder insists that such a claim is neither a zoning arrangement nor grounded in any historical, logical, or widely accepted basis. It describes the assertion as a fabrication driven by political desperation. The statement further criticizes the two politicians, alleging that they previously held positions of authority but failed to justify the trust placed in them, leading to their rejection by the electorate. It claims their current actions reflect attempts to regain political relevance through divisive sentiments.
THE FAILED POLITICAL EXPERIMENTS
According to the statement, Hon. Legor Idagbo has held several public offices, including Chairman of Bekwarra LGA, Commissioner for Works, and Member of the House of Representatives. Despite this political experience, it notes that he lost all ten wards in Bekwarra LGA during the 2023 general elections, which it interprets as a clear rejection by his constituents.
Similarly, Senator Ben Ayade, who served as Governor, is said to have lost in 42 out of 51 wards to Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe in the 2023 Senate election. The rejoinder attributes this outcome to what it describes as poor governance marked by infrastructural decline, unpaid salaries, and rising debt during his tenure. It concludes that both figures lack electoral viability.
THE “OBO” FALLACY: A CONVENIENT MYTH
The statement dismisses the claim of exclusive zoning to Obudu, Bekwarra, and Obanliku as unfounded, arguing that zoning arrangements, where applicable, must be based on consensus, fairness, and historical precedent. It emphasizes that no such agreement exists and maintains that any attempt to impose such a structure undermines constitutional provisions guaranteeing the right to contest elections.
It further questions the basis for the claim, asking whether it is rooted in performance, integrity, or public support, and concludes that the electorate has already expressed its preference for Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe.
DESPERATE TACTICS OF DISTRACTION
The rejoinder accuses the alleged sponsors of the OBO Movement of attempting to influence traditional rulers to support their agenda, while simultaneously accusing Senator Jarigbe of financial inducement. It describes this as hypocrisy and a diversionary tactic.
It notes that Senator Jarigbe has recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is actively engaging stakeholders and grassroots supporters. In contrast, it alleges that Ayade and Idagbo are seeking political backing outside their constituency rather than engaging directly with voters.
The statement also rejects allegations labeling Senator Jarigbe as a “paymaster,” describing them as defamatory and lacking evidence. It warns that legal action may be pursued against individuals or groups responsible for such claims.
A CHALLENGE TO THE COWARDS
The message calls on the accused politicians to abandon what it terms a campaign of misinformation and instead present themselves before the electorate. It asserts that Senator Jarigbe remains focused on governance and party development.
It further criticizes attempts to use anonymous groups or traditional institutions for political advantage, emphasizing that voters in Cross River North are aware of past performances and will not be easily swayed.
CONCLUSION
The statement urges the public to disregard the claims made by the OBO Movement, describing them as baseless. It reiterates confidence in Senator Jarigbe’s popularity and readiness to contest any election.
It concludes by asserting that political manipulation and mediocrity are no longer acceptable in Cross River North and calls on opponents to either engage directly with voters or withdraw from the contest.
