Senate Confirms Justice Oyewole as Supreme Court Justice
By Iyojo Ameh
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole, JCA, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, presented by its Chairman, Senator Adegbonmire Adeniyi Ayodele (Ondo Central).
Presenting the report, Senator Adegbonmire disclosed that the committee screened the nominee and subjected him to a series of questions, all of which he answered “intelligently.”
Consequently, the Senate unanimously approved the committee’s report and confirmed the nomination of Justice Oyewole as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, congratulated the nominee and prayed that God would grant him the wisdom to dispense justice fairly and impartially, regardless of circumstances.
Akpabio also commended the Chairman and members of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters for the speed and efficiency with which they handled the assignment.
He further congratulated President Tinubu for, in his words, “finding a square peg in a square hole,” noting that the quality of the nominee made it possible for the Senate to unanimously endorse his appointment.
The Senate President expressed hope that, through Justice Oyewole and other Justices of the apex court, justice would be served to the common man and, indeed, to all Nigerians, including lawmakers.
