Senate Receives, Passes Five Bills for First Reading

On February 3, the Nigerian Senate received and passed five bills for first reading during plenary in Abuja.
The bills were formally presented and read for the first time on the floor of the Senate in accordance with legislative procedures.
Among the bills are the Federal Medical Centres Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (SB.

994); the National Specialty Hospitals Management Board (Establishment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 995); and the Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 996). The three bills were sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central.
Also presented for first reading was the Institute of Technology and Innovation, Paiko (Establishment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 1015), sponsored by Senator Mohammed Sani Musa of Niger East.
In addition, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Bill, 2026 (SB. 1016) was introduced by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West.
The bills, having scaled first reading, are expected to advance to subsequent legislative stages for further consideration by the Senate.
