SPOTLIGHT ON SIX YEARS OF GOVERNOR ABDULLAHI SULE’S PURPOSEFUL LEADERSHIP IN NASARAWA STATE.

On Thursday May 29, 2025, Engineer Abdullahi Sule clocked six years as the fourth democratically elected Governor of Nasarawa State.

It is no longer news that the administration of Engineer Sule has witnessed a massive transformation that cuts across different sectors of the State’s economy.

At inception, Governor Abdullahi Sule rolled out his administration’s policies and programmes through a well-thought out document, called “Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy, NEDS” which serves as a blueprint for the government.

Unarguably, the doggedness, perseverance and unwavering commitment of Governor Sule to the development of Nasarawa State has seen his administration spreading its tentacles of development on key sectors of the economy such as agriculture, education, science and technology, women and youth empowerment, peace and security, health, economic development, mining and above all provision of quality infrastructure.

In the agricultural sector, Engineer Abdullahi Sule committed to the development of this sub-sector of the State’s economy by attracting both foreign and local investors ,provision of Agricultural incentives such as distribution of seedlings fertilizers as well as tractors to farmers across the 13 Local Government Areas of the State.

As a further testament to the determination of Engineer Sule to develop this all important sector, his administration has cultivated ten thousand hectares of Rice Farm in Jangwa Awe Local Government Area with plans for additional acquisition of land for more cultivation.

Furthermore, the governor has signed a memorandum of understanding with various globally recognised companies including an agricultural machinery production company in Mumbai, India where agreement was reached with the management of the Company with a view to improving agriculture and ensuring food security in Nasarawa State and the country at large.

The infrastructural projects embarked upon by Governor Abdullahi Sule are topnotch and second to none.

Prominent among them are construction of a sixteen billion Naira Lafia Flyover bridge and Underpass, Akwanga Underpass and road expansion, as well as approval for the construction of Keffi Flyover bridge at the popular Total junction.

Happily, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has since granted approval for the release of six hundred million Naira for payment as compensation to the people who would be affected by the construction of Keffi Flyover.

In the same vein,the administration of Engineer Abdullahi Sule has completed the construction of a world class State of the art Secretariat Complex which provides Office accommodations for the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Civil Service, the State Accountant General and the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport.

In his quest and determination to improve the standard of education in Nasarawa State Governor Sule granted approval for the recruitment of over eight thousand teaching and non teaching staff across secondary schools and higher institutions in the State, construction and renovation of blocks of classrooms , payment of NECO fees, regular training and retraining of teachers among other achievements in the educational sector.

Recently too, Governor Abdullahi Sule granted approval to the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB to employ over four thousand qualified and professional teachers who would be posted to primary schools with a view to improving the standard of basic education.

Prior to the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, retirees in Nasarawa State were faced with myriads of challenges in accessing their entitlements.

But with the coming onboard of this administration, the story has changed for the better as the governor graciously approved the payment of gratuity and pension benefits to the retirees of both state and local government areas on a quarterly basis.

The mining sector in the State has received a major boost at the inception of the administration of Engineer Abdullahi Sule which has attracted local and international mining companies that have invested hugely in the sector..

Notable among the Firms are Avatar New Energy Materials Company Limited that commissioned the largest lithium processing plant in Africa with annual production capacity of one million metric tons, located in Endo, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the State and Landmark Lithium Mining Company a Chinese firm presently constructing a lithium factory in Nasarawa, expected to produce 3,000 tons of lithium per day, with an estimated cost of one hundred million dollars to mention a few thereby contributing to Nasarawa State’s growing lithium industry, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth of the state.

On transparency, Engineer Sule is running his administration on the tripod of transparency, accountability and prudent management of resources.

As a further testament to his administration’s commitment to transparency, Engineer Abdullahi Sule recently at a stakeholders meeting announced the receipt of nine point seven-five billion Naira as refund from the Federal Government for the construction of Kwandere Airport now renamed Usman Dan Fodio Airport in lafia the state capital.

It is noteworthy to note that, Governor Abdullahi Sule has since granted full financial autonomy to the authorities of the thirteen local government areas of the State even before the pronouncement of the Supreme Court on the matter to ensure financial independence of the third tier of government.

This gesture has enabled local government areas in the State to embark on capital projects as well as improve the welfare of traditional rulers across domains.

Similarly, Governor Abdullahi Sule has granted approval for the promotion of local government workers with the new national minimum wage which has improved their productivity.

On the aspect of security, Nasarawa State has been adjudged to be one of the most peaceful States in Nigeria which has culminated in attracting both foreign and local companies as well as earning Governor Abdullahi Sule with the Machiddo Foundation Peace Award in the University of Abuja in 2022.

Indeed, Governor Abdullahi Sule is committed to sustainable peace ,unity progress, growth and development of Nasarawa State.
