TCN Refutes AEDC’s Claim of Transmission Fault on Lokoja Axis
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed claims by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) attributing a recent power outage in parts of Kogi State to a fault on its transmission network.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company described AEDC’s public notice as inaccurate and misleading.
AEDC had on May 5 alleged that the outage affecting communities such as Zango, Shetima, Apansede, Phase I, Phase II, Crown Estate, and surrounding areas along the Lokoja axis was caused by a technical fault on TCN infrastructure.
However, TCN firmly rejected the claim, insisting that all feeders at the Lokoja Transmission Substation remain fully operational and stable.
According to the company, there is no ongoing fault, outage, or scheduled maintenance on any of its transmission equipment serving the affected areas.
“TCN states unequivocally that all feeders at the Lokoja Transmission Substation serving the aforementioned areas are fully operational,” the statement read. “As of the time of this release, there is no outage or fault on our network.”
The transmission company further explained that it continues to supply bulk electricity to AEDC at required capacity for distribution to end users, adding that its infrastructure in the region remains stable.
TCN therefore dissociated itself from AEDC’s explanation of the disruption, stressing that the claim misrepresents the actual state of its network.
While reaffirming its commitment to transparency and collaboration within the power sector, the company cautioned stakeholders against attributing service disruptions to third parties without proper verification.
It warned that unverified public statements could mislead consumers and undermine confidence in Nigeria’s electricity supply chain.
“Publishing inaccurate or unverified claims risks undermining public confidence in the broader power sector,” the company stated.
TCN reiterated its commitment to maintaining a reliable transmission system and assured that it will continue engaging with sector partners to improve electricity delivery across the country.
