Tinubu Appoints NCX Board Chairman, Names New PTDF Boss, Renews TCN MD’s Tenure
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of a new Chairman and members of the Board of the Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX), alongside the appointment of a new Executive Secretary for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and the renewal of the tenure of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The decisions, announced in a statement issued on April 2, 2026, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, are in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises food security, expansion of non-oil exports, and improved market efficiency.
As part of the appointments, Alhaji Dalhatu Abubakar has been named Chairman of the NCX Board with immediate effect. A prominent entrepreneur, Abubakar is the Chairman of Al-Hamsad Integrated Rice Mills and currently serves as President of the Conference of Northern States Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (CONSCCIMA).
He is widely regarded for his contributions to agricultural industrialisation and business development, particularly in Northern Nigeria. He has also held key leadership roles, including President of the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA).
Born in Maiduguri, Borno State, Abubakar attended primary and secondary school in the city before obtaining a National Diploma in Business Management and Administration from Kaduna Polytechnic.
In a related development, President Tinubu appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of PTDF. He succeeds Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who resigned his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Until his appointment, Professor Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. He is described as a seasoned academic and administrator with extensive experience in research, education, and institutional leadership.
The President expressed confidence that Aliyu would reposition PTDF to deliver greater impact in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Meanwhile, the President has also approved the renewal of the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria for a second and final term.
The renewal follows what the presidency described as a comprehensive assessment of Abdulaziz’s performance, noting improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing system modernisation under his leadership.
With over three decades of experience in the power sector, Abdulaziz has also played a significant role in strengthening regional electricity integration through his involvement in the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
President Tinubu urged the appointees to carry out their duties with diligence, integrity, and a strong commitment to national service, in line with the objectives of his administration.
