Tinubu, PDP Applaud Gov Okpebholo’s Road Infrastructure Revolution in Edo
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his remarkable infrastructural achievements, particularly the ongoing construction of the state’s first-ever flyover bridge. He described the project as a landmark initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion and modernizing Edo’s transport system.
Speaking through the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, the President praised Governor Okpebholo’s foresight in initiating the one-kilometre flyover at Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area. He noted that upon completion, the project would significantly improve vehicular movement and enhance the urban outlook of Benin City.
Tinubu lauded the governor’s early performance in office, describing him as a visionary leader who has set a new benchmark for good governance in Edo State.
“This is a 24-span structure, each span measuring 20 meters, totaling one kilometre. The quality and pace of work are impressive. This is a first for Edo, and I believe more projects like this should follow in Benin City to ease heavy traffic,” Umahi stated on behalf of the President.
The Minister also compared the efficiency of state-led projects with some federal ones, observing that contractors tend to perform better under state supervision. He vowed to enforce stricter monitoring at the federal level to ensure accountability and timely project delivery.
“I commend Governor Okpebholo for embracing concrete technology. Roads built with reinforced concrete last between 50 and 100 years, saving the nation valuable resources. Nigeria must invest in durability instead of recurring reconstructions,” Umahi emphasized.
President Tinubu, describing Okpebholo as “a man of courage, destiny, and vision,” applauded his intervention on federal road corridors in Edo, noting that his leadership reflects both political will and a genuine commitment to the people’s welfare.
In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continuous support, attributing his administration’s early successes to the President’s encouragement.
“We are succeeding because of the President’s backing. His progressive leadership DNA runs in us. I can’t rest without thinking of what to do for my people. We will keep initiating projects that directly benefit Edo citizens,” Okpebholo said.
The governor acknowledged the years of infrastructural decay in the state but vowed to rebuild with renewed determination. He assured that his administration has assembled a team of dedicated professionals to restore Edo’s pride through sustainable development.
In a show of bipartisan support, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Segun Sowunmi, also praised the governor’s performance, noting that true development transcends party boundaries.
“When Edo people are happy, Nigerians are happy. Development must advance from state to state if we truly want to reform this nation,” Sowunmi stated.
