Tinubu urges Senate to Confirm Appointments into NLRC, NUPRC, RMAFAC

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday sent separate letters to the Senate seeking confirmation of nominees for appointment as Commissioner of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission (NLRC), Chairman and Commissioners of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), as well as Commissioners of the Revenue, Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFAC).
In a letter read at plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu requested the confirmation of Professor Francis Ifeanyi Asokwa, PhD, as Commissioner representing the South-East in the Nigerian Law Reform Commission for an initial five-year term beginning on March 18, 2026.
According to the President, the request was made “pursuant to Section 2, Subsection 1 of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission Act 2022.”
Similarly, Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of a Chairman and Commissioners for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The letter stated: “In accordance with the provisions of Section 11, Subsection 3 of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the following nominees as Chairman and Commissioners of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).”
The nominees are Senator Magnus Abe as Chairman, Engineer Paul Yaro as a Non-Executive Commissioner, and Mr. Sunday Adebayo Abanula as a Non-Executive Commissioner.
The President also requested the confirmation of two nominees as Commissioners in the Revenue, Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, in line with Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
He stated: “I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of two under-listed nominees as Commissioners in the Revenue, Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.”
The nominees are Amina Gamawa, representing Bauchi State, and Abdullahi Mukhtar, representing Kaduna State.
In the letters, Tinubu urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nominees in its “usual expeditious manner.”
Following the reading of the requests, Akpabio referred the nominations to the relevant Senate committees for further legislative imput
