Tonlagha Donates ₦100M to Federal University Otuoke, Receives Honorary Doctorate, Dedicates Recognition to Husband and Children

The Federal University, Otuoke, has honored Mrs. Esther Tonlagha for her philanthropic and humanitarian efforts with an Honorary Doctorate of Science (D.Sc) in Community Development and Empowerment.

Mrs. Tonlagha, wife of oil and gas mogul Engr. Mathew Tonlagha, is also a highly accomplished businesswoman. She is the founder of the Esther Mathew Tonlagha Foundation, and the award recognizes her significant contributions to community development and empowerment.

The honor was conferred during the university’s maiden combined convocation ceremony held on December 8, 2025, in Otuoke, Bayelsa State. Speaking at the event, Mrs. Tonlagha pledged to continue supporting the development of Bayelsa State and the nation at large. She also donated ₦100 million to the institution, expressing both gratitude and excitement for the recognition while committing to further contributions to the university’s growth.

Praises for Mrs. Tonlagha have poured in following the honor. Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, described the recognition as well-deserved and a testament to her dedication to community empowerment. He also lauded the university for acknowledging her selfless service and remarkable achievements.

Chief (Mrs.) Blessing Pondi, wife of the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, congratulated Mrs. Tonlagha, emphasizing that the award reflects a life devoted to positively impacting others and fostering hope in communities.
