TonyMay Foundation to Hold 4th Sickle Cell Summit September 9
By Iyojo Ameh
The TonyMay Foundation has announced plans for the 4th Biennial Sickle Cell Summit, scheduled to hold on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at The Zone, Gbagada, Lagos. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the CEO, Mrs Edith Otokhina in Lagos.
With the theme “From Pain to Power: Healing Minds, Bodies, and Systems,” the hybrid event will gather stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond to address the physical, mental, and systemic challenges of Sickle Cell Disorder while charting bold solutions for improved healthcare and support systems.
Since its inception in 2019, when it attracted more than 200 participants in Abuja, the Sickle Cell Summit has grown into a leading platform for dialogue, policy influence, and advocacy.
This year’s edition promises to bring together government representatives, medical practitioners, researchers, advocacy organisations, pharmaceutical companies, policymakers, faith leaders, international partners, patients, caregivers, and members of the media, ensuring an inclusive platform for all voices in the fight against Sickle Cell Disorder. The hybrid format will allow participants to join physically in Lagos or virtually from anywhere in the world.
The organisers explained that the 2025 Summit will feature critical conversations on access to healthcare, policy reforms, innovative treatment methods, and the importance of mental health support for individuals and families affected by the condition.
The gathering also aims to amplify the voices of patients and caregivers while creating opportunities for partnerships that can transform lives.
An added mission this year is the urgent fundraising drive for the treatment of leg ulcers in people living with Sickle Cell Disorder, with the Foundation calling on individuals, corporate organisations, and development partners to support the cause through sponsorships and donations.
The TonyMay Foundation stressed that the Summit is not just for professionals and policymakers, but for everyone, friends, families, allies, and community members who believe in standing in solidarity with people living with the disorder.
With a blend of expert insights, grassroots advocacy, and community support, the Foundation hopes the 4th Biennial Sickle Cell Summit will mark another important step towards turning pain into power for millions across Nigeria and Africa.
